Armenian pilgrimage to Mount Ararat

A group of 10 Americans with Armenian roots is climbing Mount Ararat (5137 meter) on the occasion of the 100th Year of Remembrance of the Armenian genocide. Their grandparents fled from Eastern Turkey after the Armenian genocide in 1915, and ended up in the USA. By climbing Ararat, national symbol of Armenia but located in Turkey, the climbers want to pay tribute to their ancestors.
On this photograph: After reaching the summit on day 4, the group descends the mountain. Here they pass a Kurdish shepherd's family on the lower slopes of Ararat.
Note: A few days after they reached the summit, Mount Ararat was temporarily closed for tourism by the Turkish military, who declared it a special security zone to fight the Kurdish PKK guerilla hiding on the mountain.
